Mike concentrates his practice on medical malpractice, civil rights, wrongful death, and other catastrophic personal injury matters.
Thus far in 2026, serving as lead counsel, Mike has secured several significant recoveries, including record wrongful death recoveries in Kane and McLean Counties and a nearly $18 million settlement for a woman catastrophically injured in a boating incident. These results build on a record of obtaining substantial seven- and eight-figure recoveries for clients in complex and heavily contested cases.
In 2024, Mike obtained multiple seven-figure recoveries as lead counsel, including a $7.7 million settlement for a man injured in an automobile collision and a record Lake County wrongful death recovery. In 2023, he obtained a $10.5 million wrongful death verdict for the family of a man killed during a police pursuit and a $10 million settlement for a failure to diagnose cervical cancer.
In 2022, Mike obtained a record-setting $42.4 million medical malpractice verdict on behalf of a patient who suffered catastrophic injuries. He later helped successfully defend the verdict on appeal. He was also recognized among the Top 50 Verdicts in Illinois in 2019 after obtaining a $2.6 million medical malpractice jury verdict.
Mike’s work has earned recognition from several leading legal publications and professional organizations. He has been selected to The Best Lawyers in America®️ in Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs for 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026, after previously being named to the 2022 edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch.
In 2025 and 2026, Mike was named to the Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America. In 2025, he was also selected to the Lawdragon 500 Leading Plaintiff Consumer Lawyers and the Lawdragon 500 X – The Next Generation, which recognizes the nation’s leading younger attorneys.
In 2026, Mike was inducted into the Society of Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only organization comprising many of Chicago’s most accomplished trial lawyers.
Mike has also been named an Illinois Leading Lawyer in 2024, 2025, and 2026, an honor limited to fewer than five percent of attorneys in the state and based on peer nominations, independent research, and professional evaluation. He was previously recognized as an Emerging Lawyer in 2021, 2022, and 2023. In 2020, the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and Chicago Lawyer magazine selected Mike for their prestigious 40 Under Forty award from a field of more than 1,500 nominees. He has also been consistently recognized by The National Trial Lawyers: Top 40 Under 40 since 2018.
Mike has also published articles and textbook chapters addressing issues in medical malpractice litigation and trial practice. He is regularly invited to lecture before bar associations and other legal organizations on medical negligence, trial advocacy, evidentiary issues, and developments affecting plaintiffs’ attorneys.
Before entering private practice, Mike served as an Assistant State’s Attorney, advocating on behalf of victims of crime. During his tenure, he handled more than 500 cases and tried felony and misdemeanor matters before both judges and juries. His work included the prosecution of serious felony offenses, including first-degree murder cases.
Mike earned his undergraduate degree from Illinois State University and his law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where he distinguished himself as one of the nation’s top student trial advocates.
He was twice selected for Loyola’s elite Corboy Fellowship in Trial Advocacy, an intensive scholarship and training program awarded to only ten students. As a Corboy Fellow and team captain, Mike won a national trial advocacy championship and received the Joan Marie Corboy Scholarship for Leadership and Trial Advocacy in recognition of his leadership and courtroom skills. After graduation, Loyola invited Mike to return as an Adjunct Professor of Trial Advocacy.
While attending Loyola, Mike also participated in a university-sponsored program that taught Chicago high school students about their constitutional rights. He lectured on common legal issues throughout the city’s South Side and coached mock trial teams at Hirsch Metropolitan High School in Englewood and Richards Career Academy High School in Back of the Yards.
Mike remains involved in legal education and community service. He serves on the Young Professionals Board of the Center for Disability & Elder Law, an organization that provides pro bono legal services to older adults and people with disabilities.
Mike lives in the Chicago area with his wife and kids. He enjoys coaching t-ball and flag football.
