On November 12, 2012, a 31 year old mother to be was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in labor with a full-term pregnancy. At 10:30pm that day, the woman’s first child was born via caesarian section. During the C-section, the decedent experienced bleeding which continued post-operatively. The decedent subsequently died on November 13, 2012. The sole survivor of the decedent was her child born hours before her death.
The Plaintiff filed this cause of action against Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation. According to the suit, the hospital allegedly:
- Failed to properly monitor her labor and delivery
- Failed to timely perform a caesarian section
- Failed to timely monitor and treat blood loss following her caesarian delivery.
The Defendants collectively agreed to settle this cause of action for $4,800,000.00.
