Main Types Of Electrical Shock Injuries

Not all electrocution injuries affect victims in the same way. Experts recognize four main categories:

  • True electrical Injury: In cases where the electrical charge is able to flow in one side of the victim’s body and out another, the victim becomes part of the electrical circuit and may suffer a true electrical injury.
  • Flame Injury: If the victim’s clothing or other material in contact with their body catches fire because of an electric charge, they could suffer a flame injury.
  • Lightning injury: These injuries are commonly caused by lightning strikes, though other low-duration, high-voltage charges could cause similar damage. The majority of damage in lightning injuries is external or surface-level.
  • Flash injury: Victims who only suffer damage to their skin and not the deeper layers of their body suffer from this type of injury.
