Devon Bruce, partner at Power Rogers, represented the City of Dixon, Illinois and helped it to recover $40 Million in stolen funds. Bruce helped recover this staggering sum of money after it was embezzled by longtime City comptroller, Rita Crundwell. The bulk of the money recovered on behalf of the City resulted from a lawsuit prosecuted by Bruce against the City’s auditors and its bank for failing to catch Crundwell’s wrongdoing for so long. The lawsuit was settled for a whopping $40 million.
Bruce was able to recover 70 cents of every dollar stolen from the City, and now City officials and residents consider how to invest the remaining funds and how to prevent falling victim to another massive fraud. For the first time in years, residents of Dixon can look forward to improving their towns infrastructure and living debt-free.
